Artist: Pitbull Terrorist
Title: C.I.A. – Contraband International Audio
Type: Album
Label: Anstalt Records
This lot of political activists hail from all over Europe, Anstalt records (a division of Nuclear Blast Records) have picked up this band now on their sophomore release. PBT are “true freedom fighters of the early 21st century”, obviously hiding their faces behind masks is not that original unless you stand up for a cause like these guys and gals do. Whilst grind or “terrorthrash” in this case, is usually a trade off in some cases from the bludgeoning hardcore punk scene, bands rarely hide themselves away like this unless they don’t want to be recognised by the “establishment”.
This album totals 18 tracks, nothing really different in terms of grind music, the whole point of this racket is to get the lyrical content across to those impressionable youngsters, while older fans I reckon would appreciate the power and energy more? I may be wrong. ‘Economaniac’ and ‘Let the Gods Do the Fighting’ both have a serious message in all that is wrong with this fucked up world, but getting beyond this I am really a fan of the music pure and simple. The latter of the aforementioned includes some metal guitar work that suits things just fine and would compare to modern grindsters Misery Index to name but a few. Female grind vocalists are very rare; Ursula, allegedly from Germany, exhumes a pretty powerful match for the bad boys. In fact, the whole band is pretty tight and has a good vibe going on. Lots of energy and blast beats, constant heavy as hell riffing and a load of bursting views on life in this wonderful world we live in. There is a bit of playing around with weird voices on ‘Ode for the Old’ but nothing too out of the box.
It is hard to say much about a band with so much political leaning, but rest assured, the music on offer is a fine taste of everything that will “blow the bloody doors off” to quote Michael Caine! Whilst some tacks, like ‘Corpocrazy’ are short enough to blink and miss, it gets the point across as only a band like this can, a swift kick in the nuts for those whom have them. This for me has a classic guitar wail, ribcage shattering drums an immediate sense of “what the hell was that”, but it really does make you want to listen to this over and over again. There is no denying its infectious nature, simple curiosity can’t subside and if you missed the music the first time around, the album duration is so that you do not get bored and waste over an hour, when a second immediate spin of the disc is required and will still take you just under the hour. For those visual fans out there, there is quite a good video to ‘Dirt Bomb’ on their myspace site, check it out if you will. In summary, the music is pretty much what you would expect from a grind, oh I mean “terrorthrash” band, tight, fast and furious, lyrically is where the message lays but that’s for you lot to check out and make comment about.
