Artist: Daath
Title: Daath
Type: Album
Label: Roadrunner/Century Media

The Industrial Death Metal act from Georgia, USA was born when Eyal Levi (Guitars/Keyboards) and ex members Sean Farber and Mike Kameron (Keyboards) were just pubescent nippers in College. After leaving college they started a project which thankfully became DAATH. They released their first single back in 2003, which was then followed in 2004 with their full length self released album ‘Futility’. Their 2007 release ‘The Hinderers’ was released by Roadrunner Records and then in October that year they played ‘Ozfest’.What followed then was 2 members leaving and an epic tour schedule. The third album ‘The Concealers’ was released through both Roadrunner and Century Media. Now on their third album release it’s quite clear that these guys are just getting better.

Some of the killer tracks on the self titled album ‘Daath’ are; ‘Destruction/Restoration’, a hefty bit of Industrial Death metal in its most purest form. The almost arcade like sounds in the background with the pummelling blast beats and angry as hell vocals, just a winner! Even just over 2.30 seconds, it’s filling to the ears. ‘Indestructible Overdose’ with its almost thrashy riffs and drum beats yet still maintaining an epic Death Metal feel to it. The middle section just pure evil reminding me a bit of Behemoth. The opening riffs on the track ‘Double Tap Suicide’ are dirty and filled with anger, then again with the blast beats and those vocals, definitely one on their own! This track is worthy of a decent head bang, and the guitar solo being so different from the rest of the music yet fits like a glove with the heavy almost doom riffs over it. It’s excellent how this track changes so much in rhythm, especially the outro.

Taking a different side to their music with ‘Oxygen burn’ the almost torturous intro, then what can only be described as perfect head swaying music, followed on by epic drum rolls and brutal riffs. The shouting angry vocals of Sean Zatorsky are just immense and wouldn’t fail to impress even the most hardcore Death Metal fan. N.A.T.G.O.D. is superb, the groovy intro and slow (ish) blast beats and then toward the middle section changing into a complete mess and then after a few seconds back into the music, creative! Or wrong? Personally I’d say ‘Kick Ass’. The solo just crazy, all over the place sounding like something off an 80s hair metal track! The last one ‘ Terminal Now’ is a piece which blows my mind, at first sounding almost space like, then a marching riff which makes you think... oooh Star Wars... and then some quite scary bits... am I listening to Burzum here?? Oh no..... the tinny riffs on the little number.... and the doomy and intense effects..... bloody hell!! Nothing short of amazing!!

Ok so cut a long story short, this album kicks major arse! It ticks all the boxes for a brutal Industrial Death metal album, but also brings something new to the table in the way of effects and a different edge to it all including the guitar solos, who’d have thought they would fit on an album like this? The production work I’d give two thumbs up, I can’t fault it. The album is clever and unique; get your greasy paws on it! You’d be daft not to!
