THE ENGINES OF ARMAGEDDON are a RADICAL VIGILANTE GROUP. They tell us that from their website home page, complete with CAPSLOCK set firmly to ON. This is a three song demo WHICH THEY HAVE DONE THEMSELVES. They hail from Nottingham. I like their CD. These are all facts.
What The Engines of Armageddon aren't – easy to write about. See, not for them all this silly genre nonsense. Why be constrained by such measly considerations when you've got a bag full of talent, a head full of ideas , instruments, electricity and a recording studio? If you absolutely pinned me down, I would say that the Engines sound like an unholy mix of prime Floodgate, some Panic Cell styled gravelly Woo-hoooa-yeah led vocal metal stylings, and some raging Pantera like groove and guitar attack. Confused? Well, yes, I dare say you are. It shouldn't work. It really shouldn't. Just when you think you've got a handle on a slick, greasy riff comes a jazzy breakdown that's a bit like a demented romp through a David Lynch fever-dream. The vocals, rumbling, lurking menacing bass and pitilessly effective drum work ensure that this power-trio imprint their mental ideas firmly and deeply into your inner cortex.
Groove laden, catchy and lovingly crafted, this somehow sounds too ambitious and gargantuan in scope to be truly from Nottingham, England. This belongs somewhere altogether more exotic and strange. TRULY A RELEASE THAT HAS TO BE HEARD TO BE BELIEVED. Get it. Now.
