Slovenian thrash metallers Negligence have been around since 2000 but have only released a previous 3 demos and one full length album in 2007, titled ‘Options of a Trapped Mind’. The band were set to release this album late last year but unfortunately for them they broke with their guitarist and had to postpone the album release date. Now signed with Metal Blade records as of June this year it looks like these guys are on the up especially with the release of this album ‘Coordinates of Confusion.’
Wasting no time at all on the first track ‘Mind Decay’ with a faffy intro, they blast straight in with some death metal style riffs and crazy drum rolls. The vocals aren’t your typical metal vocals and I feel like he needs a swift kick up the ass to get him to stretch his vocal range. ‘Screaming Fear’ sounds a lot better vocal wise, the riffs are quite simple and the drumming impressive if maybe a little too repetitive. So after quite a bland but acceptable mix, I was then expecting an impressive guitar solo toward the middle section.... the solo came... and went. Ok so it was a good little solo, but wasn’t enough to show off the track and it didn’t fit as well as I thought it might.
‘Addicted to Aggression’ mixes vocals and music perfectly. I think they hit the nail on the head with this track and even if it sounds a little Corey Taylor I still like this one. The guitar solo here is much better, it all just fits together perfectly. Well done lads!
‘The Way To... .’ is a beautifully composed instrumental with some epic guitar work. Moving on to ‘The Q Box’ which stood out for me due to the drum beat and the catchy and almost bouncy riffs and again, loving the vocals on this track. They seem to be getting stronger throughout the album and this is probably their strongest track.
Jumping ahead to the last track ‘Coordinates of Confusion’ it does seem like the whole album is back to front... the tracks get stronger throughout and normally the best track would have been first, maybe this is the way they wanted it for some obscure reason? Hmm. I’d give it all a generous 6/10. The vocals lacked in some tracks and a lot of the time I couldn’t hear the bass. Pushing all that to the side however, the vocals got more impressive toward the end and everything just melted together sounding much more impressive. Not a bad album at all, but not something I’d buy myself.
