Artist: The Dogs Divine
Title: Size of the Fight
Type: Album
Label: Mortal Music

American rockers ‘The Dogs Divine’ have been on the scene for only a mere four years yet looking on their tour history these Yanks have been busy. The band are short and sweet on their history on all bio’s but I guess you don’t need a good life story if you want the music to do the talking and having toured with the likes of Skid Row and Ratt I’m not going to argue. ‘Size of the Fight’ is The Dogs Divine’s second album release..

There’s a filthy riff to the first track ‘Dogs’ which gave me the feeling of good things to come. Definitely something different on offer here, although the singer does seem to need a good cough to clear his throat! The middle section riff is a little plain; it needed more of an oomph to get the track going more. The lyrics are a little on the cheesy side “look out baby cos here we come, let loose the dogs” but again, the riff is killer!

‘Overnight Sensation’ starts off again showing a fine riff but lacking a little in other parts. The drum part after the middle section is so uncanny to Saliva’s ‘Click, Click Boom’. The track gets a little better towards the end, the guitar solo is much more impressive than the first giving a dirty sleaze glam sound. ‘F D L F’ is a catchy and rocky little number, plain and simple. The intro to the next track ‘Gypsy Kind’ will get you wanting to sing “I’m wanted... dead or alive“but no, we’re not listening to Bon Jovi and his perfect hair. The country style acoustic guitar and string bending sounds superb, and the vocals are the best yet with a clean and clear pretty brilliant voice. The lyrics “stamp your feet I’m a gypsy King” will actually make you stamp your feet (sorry to the people who live downstairs). A cracking track!

Another few tracks worth mentioning are; ‘Brand New Addiction’ due to the bouncy drum work and the sing-along style chorus (Think a load of glam guys with glasses of Jack jumping about.... yup... eyeliner everywhere!). I have to mention ‘One and Only’ just because it’s hilarious, ever wanted to hear Vince Neil rap? No, me neither... and this is what this track sounds like...... NEXT....‘In in Love With My Car’ is a pretty decent cover of a Queen classic. Well done lads!

‘Gussie’ blows me off track altogether, an instrumental piece which sounds like it was written whilst sat in the middle of a Nordic forest around a camp fire. Violins and acoustic guitar... and is that a camp fire I can hear crackling away? Last but not least is ‘One for the Ages’ a seemingly serious and mellow track, again something that could be written whilst knee deep in forestry yet the marching drum rolls and electric guitar solo gives it that fresh out of the studio feel.

All in all a pretty good album, with a 50/50 helping of heavy metal and Glam crammed into an album full of originality. And looking at pictures of these fellas you won’t feel bad for buying something that sounds glam, the badass look will make up for it!
