MARTYR DE MONA

BIRMINGHAM BARFLY – 27/06/08

Martyr de Mona (MDM) come into this show on the back of a mini tour and having being crowned Live band of the year 2007 in the midlands they were definitely not to be missed. Having secured an album and publicity deal with Madhouse has certainly given these guys a lift, and the addition of new drummer Jay Miles has given this 4 piece powerful metal band a real push forward.

Their music is a combination of melodic metal delivered with an energetic punch with that muscle bound heart pounding drum beating us all into submission.

Having being influenced by such titanic metal gods such as Black Sabbath, Tool, Alice in Chains and Therapy, MDM have developed their own power brand of heavy guitars and pounding bass music, with some very original lead breaks and to great avail too, as they proved that there is new life on the scene.

Vocalist/Guitarist Louis Hale with his cracking vocals is complimented by blinding lead breaks from guitarist Simon Blewitt. The powerful bass backline of Drummer Jay and bass player Stephen Williams creating that foot stomping head banging boom that keeps the adrenalin flowing.

Their set is well thought out, and combines gritty riff based tunes with powerline vocals and harmonised lead.

These guys are definitely worth keeping an eye on....and watch out for studio material as they are due to enter the studio July this year to record their debut album.

I get the feeling I have not heard the last of this band............... they deserve bigger and will prove it no doubt in time to come.
