TEXTURES
SHEFFIELD CORPORATION - 14/04/08
If you want to experience an ultimate musical explosion of aggression and brutality, but you don't want to see blood splashed all around – because you prefer fidelity murder instead – go to see Textures live. They will kick your ass, digest you, grind you, and leave you broken in pieces.
I have seen these guys live now four times and my impression about them is still the same; very skilled, talented musicians sound-wise, really extreme and progressive.
The show at the Corporation started on time and as the audience wasn't too big (so it was not a problem to get to the bar) and I was pretty thirsty, I spent this time mostly chatting with Stef Broks and Eric Kalsbeek of Textures (pretty much missing 3 Inches Of Blood and Outcryfire). That was a very cool talk, and I may even have an interview recording of it, but you will need to pay me 1000 Pounds to get it. Well, ok, actually we will publish it here when I find a moment to put it on “paper”. Just give me some time.
Anyway – Outcryfire and 3 Inches Of Blood were good. That's all I can say; loud, fast and crushing, well-played and enthusiastic. Just like support bands should be, really. No disappointment. Then, around 9 o'clock Textures came on. I was hidden just in front of the stage with my camera, and I was waiting for them impatiently. Therefore, when they hit the first chords, I started shooting immediately. Material went through “Polars” with the amazing “Swandive”, “Drawing Circles” from which I remember “Stream of Consciousness” and “Regenesis” played on a full throttle and a couple of songs from the new “Silhouettes” album (with “Old Days Born Anew” being the truly mind-blowing experience). What can I say? Well, these guys are pro's and there is no doubt about it.
Eric screamed so well that for the moment I was thinking that he must have ripped his throat to shreds (yet he had not, this was confirmed by him singing very nicely and even, I'd say in a lovely fashion when he needs to), Stef played his drums precisely and it worked really well with Remko Tielemans's bass (this guy is insane!) - Jochem Jacobs and Bart Hennephof, both delivered very solid and sophisticated guitar work plus another crazy weirdo - Richard Rietdijk on synths (never seen a keyboard player jumping like that :) were rocking the house with amazing power. Textures have a very good contact with the audience; Eric even gives his microphone to one of the blokes off stage so he could scream the shit out! Incredible. One big evil family, you can say. No mistakes, no fuck-ups, everything well-planned, delivered on time and really ass-kicking. And with a smile, because they like to play and it's easy to see it; five friends, enjoying what they do and doing it well. I'd love to see more concerts like this one. Well Bring it on. I'll be waiting for the next time!
