THRASH TILL DEATH REVIEW Three
of the hottest thrash newcomers Evile, Headless Cross and Pitiful Reign
have recently unleashed their assault tactics on the live music scene
as they brought the noise and tore up practically every metal haunt across
the UK. Sadly the turnout for the tour has been far from great however
with the “Thrash ‘Till Death” line up heading for Bloodstock
open air festival in July plus the recent announcement of the bands supporting
British thrash titans Onslaught and Xentrix, things are definitely looking
up for these hard working thrashers. Pitiful
Reign (8/10) kicked off the night with their own mosh anthem in the making
“In the Pit”. They were unfortunately hampered by a poor sound
and the vocals were practically inaudible through no fault of their own. This
was my third time watching these young thrashers and have they come a long
way in the space of a few months! The old songs have gotten faster, the new
songs are heavier and their whole sound is so much tighter. Of course, everyone
loves a band who know how to have fun and Pitiful Reign are a fine example
of that; despite the lack of audience, you could easily believe these lads
enjoyed being up on stage and undoubtedly their energy on stage is rather
contagious. This band has got the potential to go a long way. Evile
(9/10) were next to grace the stage as they began their set with “Enter
the Grave” taken from their new E.P. Here is another band that has significantly
upped their game over the past 18 months or so since forming as Evile. Matt
seems to have found his own vocal style and this strengthens the songs no
end. They played a good mixture of old and new songs including “We who
are about to die” and “Thrasher” and finished their set
with fan favourite “Killer from the Deep”. Headlining
the evening was the fantastic Headless Cross (9/10) complete with new drummer
Chad Ingram, who looks to fit in perfectly with the other guys in the band.
Headless Cross are simply an amazing band to watch live and never fail to
deliver the goods. From the minute they set foot on stage and begin windmilling
in unison they came across as pros, and it just goes to show that all the
hard work and heavy touring schedules are paying off as they give off another
simply flawless performance. They make thrashing look so easy a child could
do it!
