Artist: Eibon
Title: Eibon
Type: CD
Label: Aesthetic Death Records

Eibon from Paris, France (not to be confused with Eibon the half-born Black Metal super group) want to choke you on twisted sludge, and bludgeon you with the doom of their debut mini-CD... It's just that simple. To draw comparisons with the collective pedigree of their namesake band would be unfair, but this band has got some members that have themselves been around in the ranks of Drowning, Garden of Silence, and Astral Rising – So it's not surprising that it is a fantastic couple of slabs of unrelenting Doom/Sludge in the vein of Neurosis and Eyehategod.

The two tracks that this CD is comprised of radiate sheer heaviness that is a testament to the musicians involved especially seeing as the band as a unit hasn't been around for very long. The first track 'Asleep and Threatening' opens with plenty of guitar feedback and a strong gut-wrenching bass-line and Blackened Death Metal vocals that slither through the track like a creature out of the primordial darkness – this is straight up sludgey-Doom metal – it isn't pretty, and it doesn't want to be your friend. 'Staring at the Abyss' in comparison opens with a bluesy acoustic riff that's replicated by the fading in metal guitars that give it a slightly experimental feel that is heightened by occasional melodic interludes throughout the sledgehammer like guitar riffs.

What Eibon have done is create some very dark and unfriendly music... and it is pretty damn good. If you like Eyehategod with a liberal dash of Celtic Frost you'll love this monstrosity – it is cold, heavy, meandering, against the grain, and very doomy. Looking forward to a full length release.
