Now this really is something to get excited about! Fred Estby of Dismember fame is the driving force behind Necronaut and he’s roped in an incredible list of guest musicians to help him bring this debut album to life. Just a few of the notables to make their deathly presences felt are Chris Reifert (Autopsy), Nicke Andersson (Death Breath), Tomas Lindberg (At The Gates), Erik Danielsson (Watain), JB (Grand Magus), David Blomqvist (Dismember)...and that really is just a sample – you can find out the rest for yourself. However, while the list of names involved might be what first gets the pulse racing in regard to Necronaut it’s the music that really delivers the mainline thrill. These songs combine the melody, guitar work and structure of classic heavy metal with the bludgeoning power and murky sludge of primal death metal and add in some superb atmospherics for good measure. While a stellar line-up of musicians doesn’t always guarantee great results, in Necronaut’s case the results are fantastic. Put Iron Maiden in a blender with equal parts Dismember, Venom and Sabbath and just imagine the resulting brew. If that gets you salivating like a mad dog then you need to get your grubby mitts on this album. Oh and the artwork is cool as fuck as well. Anyway, can’t stop – I’m off to play ‘Twilight At The Trenches’ at maximum volume another thousand times and pre-order my vinyl copy of this awesome album.
